This webinar examines the pathophysiology of skin barrier dysfunction and lipid deficiency as a common thread underlying conditions such as diabetic xerosis, heel and toe fissures, post-surgical scars, and other compromised-skin presentations frequently encountered in foot and wound care practice. Participants will review the limitations of standard care approaches (urea-based softening, surface moisturizers) that address symptoms without restoring lost barrier lipids, and explore an emerging bio-identical oil-based approach supported by peer-reviewed clinical research. The webinar also addresses scope-of-practice considerations for RNs and NPs when recommending or dispensing skin barrier products within a standing order or protocol.
